Amblyopia - Treatment for Lazy Eye
Amblyopia, commonly called lazy eye, occurs when one eye doesn't develop normal vision because the brain has learned to favour the other. It's one of the most common causes of vision loss in children, yet it often goes undetected because children adapt without realising their vision is reduced.
What you should know?
Causes: a significant difference in prescription between the two eyes, strabismus (eye turn), or a physical obstruction to vision in early childhood
Best results come with early treatment, but adults can also benefit
Treatment options: glasses to correct the underlying prescription, patching of the stronger eye, vision therapy to improve eye teaming and binocular vision
Regular follow-up: typically every 6 to 8 weeks during active treatment
Goal: improve the weaker eye and develop true binocular vision
