Atropine Eye Drops for Myopia Management

Low-dose atropine eye drops are one of the most studied interventions for slowing myopia progression in children. Applied at bedtime, they have been shown in multiple large-scale trials to significantly slow axial elongation with minimal side effects at low concentrations.

What you should know?

  • How it works: atropine is thought to act on receptors in the sclera to slow eye growth 

  • Concentration used: 0.01% to 0.05% (low-dose), compounded or commercially available 

  • Side effects at low dose: minimal, with slight light sensitivity in some children 

  • Often used in combination with Ortho-K or MiSight for enhanced effect 

  • Requires a therapeutic endorsement prescription. Our therapeutically endorsed optometrists can prescribe
