Keratoconus - Diagnosis and Management

Keratoconus is a progressive eye condition where the cornea gradually thins and bulges forward into a cone shape, causing distorted and blurred vision that worsens over time and cannot be fully corrected with glasses. Early detection and proper management can significantly slow progression and maintain quality of life.

What you should know?

  • Symptoms: progressive blur, ghosting or shadowing, glare and haloes, frequent prescription changes, poor vision with glasses

  • Diagnosis: corneal topography and tomography to map the corneal shape

  • Contact lens options: rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses, hybrid lenses, scleral lenses, each providing better vision than glasses

  • Corneal cross-linking: if progression is confirmed, we refer for cross-linking, then fit contact lenses post-procedure

  • Regular monitoring: 6-monthly topography to track any progression
