Children's vision plays a fundamental role in their ability to learn, develop, and thrive. Yet many vision problems in children go undetected, simply because children rarely realise their experience of the world is different to others.

At Norranda Opticians, our paediatric and behavioural optometry service is designed to identify and address these issues early, giving your child the visual foundation they need to reach their full potential.

Paediatric optometry focuses on diagnosing and managing vision conditions such as short-sightedness, long-sightedness, astigmatism, amblyopia (lazy eye), and strabismus (eye turn). These conditions are common in children and, when caught early, can typically be managed very effectively. Left unaddressed, however, they can impact academic performance, confidence, and long-term eye development.

Behavioural optometry goes a step further, examining not just how clearly a child sees, but how well their visual system functions. This includes how the eyes focus, track moving objects, coordinate with one another, and process visual information. Difficulties in any of these areas can contribute to problems with reading, writing, concentration, and classroom performance, even in children with seemingly normal vision.

Our assessments use advanced diagnostic technology including binocular vision testing, detailed eye movement analysis, and axial length measurement. From these results, we build a personalised care plan that may include spectacle correction, therapeutic prisms, vision therapy exercises, or myopia control strategies. We understand that visiting the optometrist can feel daunting for young children.

Our team is warm, patient, and experienced in making children feel comfortable and at ease throughout every appointment. If you have concerns about your child's vision, learning, or development, book a paediatric optometry consultation with our team today.
