What Medicare covers, explained clearly
Noranda Optometrist bulk bills eligible Medicare card holders for comprehensive eye examinations, so there is nothing to pay on the day. Medicare covers one bulk billed eye examination every three years if you are under 65, and once every year if you are 65 or over. Some specialised tests and services sit outside Medicare, and we will always explain any cost before proceeding.
What you should know?
Bulk billing available for eligible Medicare card holders with a valid card, with no out of pocket cost for a standard comprehensive eye examination
Medicare frequency: one bulk billed examination every three years if you are under 65, and once every year if you are 65 or over
More frequent examinations are covered where clinically indicated, including diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration, or a genuine change in your vision
Children's eye examinations are bulk billed for children with a valid Medicare card
Medicare does not cover glasses or contact lenses, though private health extras cover often contributes
Some services sit outside Medicare, including OCT imaging, contact lens fitting and aftercare, dry eye assessment, and myopia management consultations

Ortho-K is a fitted medical device, so the fee reflects the mapping, the custom lens design and the follow up care rather than the lenses alone. The tier your child falls into is confirmed at the suitability assessment.
