Orthokeratology — also known as ortho-K, ortho K, or corneal reshaping — uses custom-designed rigid lenses worn overnight to reshape the cornea while you sleep. Take them out in the morning and you see clearly all day, with no glasses and no daytime contact lenses. In children, ortho-K does something more important as well: it slows the progression of short-sightedness.
A well-established treatment
Corneal reshaping has been used clinically since the 1960s, and the faster, more predictable lens designs we fit today have been available since the early 2000s. Two decades of peer-reviewed research now support ortho-K for both vision correction and slowing myopia, making it one of the most thoroughly studied myopia control options available.
